Boston Public Library Names New Board Chair

Bob Gallery, president of Bank of America Massachusetts, has been elected chair of the Boston Public Library Board of Trustees, Mayor Marty Walsh announced on Monday.

Also named to the board was Cheryl Cronin, a partner at Cronin & Leonard LLP.

"Both Bob and Cheryl have a proven track record of success in their respective industries and will make a perfect fit for leading the nation's first large, free municipal library," Walsh said in a statement.

The previous board chair, Jeffrey Rudman, stepped down from the post in June after a tumultuous period for the library in which valuable artworks that had been reported missing were found on the premises.

The library president at the time, Amy Ryan, also announced her resignation. The library's search committee for a new president holds two public listening sessions, the first of which is Monday evening in Brighton.
