Looking for summer books that test your brain but are still accessible? Author and podcaster Steve Almond (@stevealmondjoy), whose most recent book is "Bad Stories," joins Here & Now's Robin Young to share some of his picks.

His list features works by mostly women writers (with the exception of Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" and Hartley Lin's "Young Frances") because, "More women are writing, and I would say writing deeper and more important work than men right now, and more women are reading it."

Steve Almond's Summer Reading List

"Florida," Lauren Groff
"Feel Free," Zadie Smith
"Fahrenheit 451," Ray Bradbury

More Books Steve Recommends

"Gateway to the Moon," Mary Morris
"The Great Believers," Rebecca Makkai
"The Lost Family," Jenna Blum
"Asperger's Children: The Origins of Autism in Nazi Vienna," Edith Sheffer
"Young Frances," Hartley Lin
"The Kiss Quotient," Helen Hoang

This segment aired on June 12, 2018.
