REGISTER: WBUR Launches CitySpace Summer Camp On July 13

WBUR announces CitySpace Summer Camp, a new six-week series providing content to families with children, ages five to 12 years old. The Summer Camp aims to help families occupy, entertain and involve kids during this unprecedented summer. The virtual programming will launch Monday, July 13 and conclude Monday, August 21.

“With so many camps, programs and activities canceled, WBUR’s CitySpace team is excited to foster an environment where children can immerse themselves in a new experience and gain news skills,” said Amy Macdonald, director of community engagement at WBUR. “We hope our special version of summer camp helps parents and kids keep busy and have fun together. “

During each week of camp, the CitySpace team will provide a fun and thought-provoking assignment for families to tackle based on a weekly theme. Families can then submit photos or a video of their completed project for the CitySpace team to include in a montage of entries, posted at each week’s conclusion.

The themes for each week of CitySpace Summer Camp include:

  • Community Service: “What does community service mean to you?”
  • Theater: “Lights. Camera. ACTION.”
  • Dance: “Shake it off!”
  • Creative Writing: “Everyone has a story. What’s yours?”
  • Art:” Show us your Picasso!”
  • Book club: “Bookworms unite!”

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, WBUR’s CitySpace transitioned from producing engaging events in-person venue to producing engaging virtual events including WBUR Town Halls, CitySpace At Home, CitySpace Storytime and #CoveringCOVID.

CitySpace Summer Camp would also like to thank Hale, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Huntington Theatre Company, American Repertory Theater, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Lyric Stage Company of Boston, SpeakEasy Stage Company, Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, New Repertory Theater, The Front Porch Arts Collective, Central Square Theater, Beat the Odds Boston, The Dance Complex, 826 Boston, Circle Round, Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard Art Museums, Historic New England, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Henry Bear's Park and Belmont Books whose support has made CitySpace’s special version of summer camp possible.
